Stitches in the Garden

Ever have one of those weekends where you wonder if it was longer/harder than the week before it? That was the case with this weekend 1,000%. Holy cow.

Saturday I had the pleasure of hanging out with the very friendly and talented Priscilla (her shop is here) at Joann Fabrics. We were promoting our classes. Mine is the Forever Flowers class, so I had to make the flower... it's seriously adorable, and I'd like to whip up a few in thread to place on clips for my hair. If you're interested in taking this class, please visit my events page for more info. There are dates through August I think.

After puttering around (I do a lot of that) I wanted to see if I could try a technique I saw (I think) off of Pinterest. It's basically basic making with crochet and strips of fabric. I cut a few strips, folded them into themselves (to hide the raw edges), and so far have a single crochet circle. This will be a great basket and now I have a way to use all those random fabric scraps. Happy dance.

We spent an bunch of time outside in the garden this weekend. I still have more to finish, but the progress is there. Hubs whipped up some wooden trellis bases for my zucchinis. I have to cover them with the wire mesh today once there's a shady spot in the day. We're trying to garden up this year instead of out. We'll see.

There is eggplant and tomato loveliness going on at the other end of the zucchini planter box. The tomato plant even has little baby tomatoes on it. CAN'T WAIT!

On the way out of the garden this morning, I stumbled upon this little guy. I have a feeling I should have squashed him. He's do doubt a garden or lawn pest, but instead I let him be. He is so pretty, and it's really not my place to squash pretty little moths in the grass. I hope I don't regret my decision later on!

  2. Your garden looks lovely! I wish I had a place for an actual garden, but for the moment I'll have to be content with the balcony on my apartment. The crochet/fabric strip basket is really cool! I'm always looking for ways to use all of my scraps.

    1. Balcony gardens can produce tons of veggies too! You can grow your food anywhere if you set your mind to it... just think of growing upwards instead of outwards.

I'm hoping to get some sort of "tutorial" up on how I'm getting the yarn basket together... one day when my schedule slows a bit. Ha!
