Free Crochet Pattern - Scrap Yarn Eyeglass Case

Fleece Lined Scrap Yarn Glasses Case

Check your gauge! ch 5, tn, sc 2nd st from hook, sc nxt 3sts, ch 1, tn, (sc nxt 4 sts, ch 1, tn), repeat 2 more times.  This swatch should measure 1 1/4 inch by 1 inch.  Adjust your hook size or yarn accordingly.

Row 1: ss 2nd st from hook, ss nxt 4 sts, (hdc nxt 5 sts, ss nxt 5 sts), repeat across - 20 ss, 15 hdc
Row 2: ch 1, tn, ss 1st 5 sts, (hdc nxt 5 sts, ss nxt 5 sts), repeat across - 20 ss, 15 hdc

Row 3: ch 2, tn, hdc 1st 5 sts, (ss nxt 5 sts, hdc nxt 5 sts), repeat across - 20 hdc, 15 ss

Row 5: ch 1, tn, ss 1st 5 sts, (hdc nxt 5 sts, ss nxt 5 sts), repeat across - 20 ss, 15 hdc
Rows 6-12: repeat rows 2-5

Fold your eyeglass case in half longways with the right side facing in.  Using the13th 4.5 yd of scrap yarn, join in on the top of one side.  (I made the end with all of the strings the bottom half.  This doesn't really matter... you have to deal with the ends either here on this step or later when you're sewing.  It's up to you), Evenly ss 35 down the side of the case (you will have the hdc matching up with the ss on this part), ch 1, evenly ss 18 across bottom of the case.  Fasten off and trim the ends.

Cut out 2 pieces of fleece roughly the same size as your case.  Then cut out 2 more pieces roughly 1/2 inch bigger than your case.

Take the smaller piece and place it on the wrong side of your fleece (if your fleece has a right and wrong side).  Sew the smaller fleece piece onto the larger fleece piece using the stitch of your choosing.

With the right sides facing in (the side without the smaller piece of fleece sewn onto it), sew the sides and bottom together, leaving about a 1/4 inch edge.  I don't really sew, so I'm not familiar with the lingo here.  Anyone?  Place this inside your eyeglass case, which is now turned right side out.  Your ends should look similar to the picture.

Fold the fleece ends into the eyeglass case and stitch with matching thread.  You can pin the fleece into place first if that makes sewing easier.  I usually end up using a whip stitch about 1/8 inch below the crochet work edge.

Enjoy your new glasses case!
